Statement on National Association of Counties’ Head Start Resolution
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Association of Counties voted in favor of the Head Start Resolution, their proposed resolution to maintain Head Start’s federal-to-local funding structure. The following statement should be attributed to Yasmina Vinci, executive director of the National Head Start Association:
“We commend today’s action by the National Association of Counties (NACO) to adopt a resolution in support of maintaining the current federal-to-local funding structure of Head Start. It supports positive child and family outcomes in the short, intermediate and long terms because it ensures that the Head Start Program Performance Standards will be consistently utilized in rural, urban, and suburban communities. NACO’s wise resolution also recognizes the importance of respecting local community needs through flexible decision-making. We are grateful to the leadership of the counties for their far-sighted position and look forward to working with them to continue to ensure Head Start’s enduring contributions to young children and their families throughout the nation.”
